So funny. Back in the early 90s I was a master control switcher at Galavision Ch. 49 here in Houston. I had the weekend long shifts, so I saw a ton of ‘cente flicks – in fact – probably 90% of the movies they showed would have this guy.

Now I have to admit that it wasn’t my cup of tea. As one brought up on Terminator, Blade Runner, and Evil Dead 2, I would laugh at the campy plots, the helpless predictability, songs sung at the drop of a hat, etc. I chalked it up to it-must-be-a-Mexican-thing and looked back down at my Remix magazine (or something similar).

But the way you’ve framed it has me appreciating the man, the song, & video. I mean, hell. There’s a horse in the video, and the director saw fit to cut away to the horse for a facial expression TWICE during the song! Also love that there was not one, but TWO bottles of tequila on the table. ‘Shitfaced’ doesn’t quite describe it. Elvis would be passed out after 4 or 5 of those shots, right? He never would have been awake for the knife fight.

Thanks for shedding light on something I just didn’t get before. And yeah, like you I wonder about ‘cente’s take on tacos . . .
